Review #16: Snake Rattle n' Roll: Bring a friend along and enjoy!

The game box

Rare is one of the best companies that developed back in the day for the NES. This game is one of their masterpieces in every level. Extremely fun to play with, especially in the 2 player co-op mode, very very nice graphics and awesome music.

You play as Rattle (and Roll in the 2 player mode) and your goal is simple: Eat dots to grow your tail so you can move on to the next level. Sounds simple right? Wrong! The game's pseudo-3D perspective (top down with an angle) is making things way more complex. The levels keep getting bigger and bigger and you have to grow a larger tail each time to proceed to next one.

At the end of each level is a small weight machine. If you have eaten enough then it should start ringing and open the door to the next level. If not, tough luck, back for more food. Getting a bigger tail is not as easy as it sounds. Every time you hit an enemy, you lose one tail unit. If you die, you lose all of it and start over.

The game consists of 11 levels that are pretty hard to go through (especially the final three). The graphics are super and the music is taken by 1954 song "Snake Rattle n' Roll".

Conclusion: This game game is a true gem for the NES and it will give you many hours of fun, especially if you bring a friend along. It is awesome in every level and it's a great addition to your collection. It is rated C+ on the NES Rarity List (not quite rate) and you can get it on eBay for about 30 bucks full will box and manual.
