Here's the first review: Bram Stocker's Dracula

My first review will be on a hidden NES gem, a game based on the popular movie Dracula. Bram Stocker's Dracula by Sony Imagesoft is an excellent side-scroller game, Castlevania style, that came out in 1993.

The graphics are nice. Big clear sprites, nice atmospheric backgrounds were eye-candy for the early 1990's. The music is serviceable and corresponds to the overall game atmosphere without getting boring. The gameplay, as mentioned before, Castlevania style, but instead of candles, you hit some Mario-stolen question mark boxes to get items. It's a little weird to see these boxes out of a Mario game, but ...what to say. The producing company probably lacked of imagination and went for something common for power-ups back in the 90's.

There is a variety of enemies to deal with and the level bosses are different incarnations of Dracula himself. The 3 levels of difficulty the game offers doesn't make the harder to beat, it just increases the number of levels you play. So if you want to completely beat the game and play all the levels, you have to set it to hard.

A nice touch also is that the game has daytime and night time levels. Sometimes the day and night switch during play. At daytime it's easier, as many of the monsters don't come out with the sun up. At night time the monsters rise and the quest becomes more difficult.

Conclusion: Bram Stocker's Dracula is a good game for the NES, fun to play with and definitely one  of the games you should own if you are a collector. It's rated B (Rare) on the NES Rarity list and on eBay the game with box and instructions in good condition goes at about 60$.
